Hratche is the Labour Party Candidate for the Lewes Constituency and he’s already campaigning and raising the important issues that show people that the local Labour Party is on their side. That our shared values of fairness and justice – both in the UK and around the world – are even more important now that times are hard.
He has been doing his best Churchillian stuff, fighting them on the beaches Well, the West Beach in Newhaven to be a little more precise, Supporting Seaford Health Centre, and to reduce traffic speeds in Lewes.
By day Hratche Koundarjian is a campaigner for a breast cancer charity – but by night (and in the morning, during his lunch break, at the weekends and maybe even right now) he’s the Lewes Labour Party Candidate campaigning in Lewes, Newhaven, Seaford, Polegate and surrounding villages – working to make our community fairer and better.
He admits though that he can’t do it on his own “we can’t leave politics to the politicians any longer – it’s only by working together that we can bring about the changes that we want in our communities.”
The problem is that politics and politicians are seen as remote and unconnected with the lives of ordinary people, and the truth of the matter is that they are.
Unlike other politicians – who will tell you want they think you want to hear – Hratche’s experience shows that real change is only possible when ordinary people fight for these changes themselves.
Hratche says:
Firstly – I believe that power lies with the people, not the Government. But this also means that if people want to see the positive changes in their constituency then they need to take responsibility and get involved.
Secondly – That an MP has to show leadership. That they have to respond to what the public are calling for and identify how this can be achieved, and most importantly how the public can have their voice heard.
Thirdly – That this needs to be an ongoing process. A general election once every four or five years is no substitute. MPs need to demonstrate that with public support positive changes are really possible.
From saving the Seniors Day Centre, Homefield Place in Seaford to opening the West Beach to changing the Constituency Name to reflect the constituency better, to fighting to protect school children by reducing speed limits around schools, to introducing a banking tax and fighting for our climate – these are all achievable, but are only possible you and the rest of the public get behind them.

Dear Lewes Labour Party
I am a Labour Party member based in Exeter (member no A022542) and went passed your HQ the other day – sadly it was early in the morning and closed but I have now found your impressive website which encourages me and so I hope you can help.
Do you have a paid full time or part time organiser or administrator? If you do, could you contact me please.
Down here in Exeter we are reviewing our organisation structure and finances and are contacting other CLP’s to see how they do things. Looking forward to hearing from you, Ann Scurfield Tel 01392 258395
